During our advising sessions with newly transferred students from BC Colleges, we found a gap in understanding the specific lower division requirements for each of our Geography majors. As a student recruitment initiative, I created a booklet for Langara College students who are looking to transfer to SFU Geography.
We found using tables with course equivalents provided a straight forward and easily understandable method for students to identify which Langara courses can be directly transferred to SFU. This approach allows the student to plan their courses at Langara and settle into our majors without the need to complete extra courses, thus avoiding prolonging their degree.
In this booklet, we also included co-op requirements and where to go to check transfer courses. We also have two majors coming down the pipeline so we will be adding them to the booklet very soon!
We hope this will help Langara College students transferring to SFU Geography and are looking into creating specific guides for other BC Colleges as well.
