Tino rangatiratanga—Māori sovereignty and self-determination—is central to the project I created exploring Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke’s haka protest in Parliament. Through a scroll-based digital story, I unpack how tino rangatiratanga challenges colonial narratives, asserts Māori political authority, and reclaims space through language, protest, and presence. Grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, this concept informs not only the subject matter but the storytelling approach—centering Indigenous voices, resisting erasure, and amplifying intergenerational resistance. This project is a reflection on sovereignty not just as a political claim, but as an active, creative, and deeply relational process.
